US Open 2018 prize money: How much will this year's champions earn?
The US Open has increased their prize pot further this year for a tournament which marks it's 50th anniversary.
The women's and men's champions will each take home £2.99m which is £590,000 more than Angelique Kerber and Novak Djokovic received for their respective victories at Wimbledon last month.
The final grand slam of the year, which begins on Monday August 27, is the most lucrative. Organisers increased their overall prize money budget to $53m (£41.7m), which is more than a five per cent increase on their 2017 budget and a staggering 57 per cent increase since 2013. Wimbledon's overall pot this year stood at £34m.
This year's runners-up in Flushing Meadows will pocket £1.46m each while the winning teams in both the men's and women's doubles with share £551,000.
First-round losers, meanwhile, will receive a cheque for £42,500, an increase of £3,900 on last year's figure.
"2018 is a significant year in our history,” said USTA Chairman of the Board and President Katrina Adams. “Not only is it the 50th Anniversary of the tournament, we also have completed the five-year transformation of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. We know that we are poised for incredible growth moving forward.”
American singer Kelly Clarkson, who was the inaugural winner of American Idol in 2002 will headline this year's opening ceremony.
Sloane Stephens and Rafael Nadal are the defending champions in New York while Jamie Murray partnered Martina Hingis to success in the Mixed Doubles.
Novak Djokovic is currently favourite with the bookmakers to win a third US Open title while Serena Williams is 6/1 favourite to win her first major since becoming a mum.
