US mine regulators report latest inspection data

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Federal mining regulators issued 150 citations during the latest round of monthly impact inspections.

The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration said it also issued 10 orders following inspections at 13 coal mines and three other mines in September.

MSHA said it issued 20 citations and one order following an inspection at Elk Run Coal Inc.'s Roundbottom Powellton Mine in Boone County, W.Va. Among the violations, inspectors said the mine operator failed to follow the methane and dust control portion of an approved ventilation plan.

Inspectors also issued orders at Dana Mining LLC's Arco No. 1 Mine in Marion County, W.Va. for not complying with an approved ventilation plan.

The inspections began in 2010 after the Upper Big Branch mine explosion in West Virginia that killed 29 coal miners.
