Urbana HS student to sing national anthem at state finals game

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — An Urbana High School senior will take center stage on Thursday and Friday at the State Farm Center.

17-year-old Jaiden Burgess will sing the national anthem at the IHSA’s Boys Basketball State Finals.

Burgess was selected for the honor after winning a district competition earlier this year. The student is part of both the Urbana Choir and a church choir.

“I’m very excited for it. It’s honestly a really big opportunity that I’ve been given,” Burgess said. “I honestly am very proud of myself in general because I worked really hard on it. But it’s, like, really cool. I’m excited to sing in front of a lot of people.”

Burgess said to expect a short and simple anthem with some small twists thrown in.
