The UHS Engineering Club tracked the consumption of its engineering lab. Then they researched and audited different solar panels before choosing to buy a portable solar panel kit with an Illinois Green School grant.

Officials said students have displayed their solar panels at community outreach events to help demonstrate and promote green energy.

Last year, 39 schools across the state were recognized by Illinois Green Schools Project for their sustainability projects.
