Urbana Deputy Fire Chief retiring after 34-year career

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Deputy Chief of the Urbana Fire Department is calling it a career.

The City of Urbana announced via Facebook on Thursday that Deputy Chief Kyle Hensch is retiring.

“The Urbana Fire Department sincerely appreciates Deputy Chief Kyle Hensch for the dedicated years of service he provided to the department and this community,” city officials said.

Hensch is a 34-year veteran of the fire service, 25 of which were spent in Urbana. He was promoted through every ranked position in the Urbana Fire Department until his appointment as Deputy Chief in May of 2022.

His last day on the job will be Friday, March 8.
