Upon further review: DVR review dissects numerous Ohio State breakdowns vs. Michigan
Ohio State beat writer Bill Rabinowitz does regular DVR reviews of the previous Buckeye games on Twitter. Here are the tweets from his study of Ohio State's 42-27 loss to Michigan.
Hassan Haskins’ first big run, a 16-yarder on third down. Tyreke Smith is slow to react and Cody Simon is blocked 5 yards downfield. pic.twitter.com/dpDj9upmh7

Cam Brown gets blocked, and Marcus Williamson doesn’t look to see the receiver after finally shedding a block. pic.twitter.com/rE50Dd7M5n

Antwuan Jackson misses a tackle, and Haskins runs between Haskell Garrett and Steele Chambers. After contact, he plows for 7 more yards. pic.twitter.com/r1czVYVJIH

Michigan’s first TD. Javontae Jean-Baptiste is beaten to the edge. Marcus Williamson runs inside, leaving no one outside. pic.twitter.com/bWgTCoefYq

Let's just say that what I saw from OSU's defense on Michigan's first drive makes what happened the rest of the game less surprising. Not good. Not good at all.

The ensuing kickoff. Julian Fleming signals for fair catch but doesn’t catch ball on fly, negating chance to get ball at 25. But refs whistle play dead. Fleming could have gotten a few yards, it seems. Instead, OSU has to start at its 4. pic.twitter.com/NYi5qJlvog

OSU’s first offensive snap. Ugh. pic.twitter.com/nolIsK6ynt

Finally, a good play for OSU. Bryson Shaw’s interception, the biggest play of his Buckeye career. pic.twitter.com/wmDPSGgw8x

TreVeyon Henderson’s 28-yard gain, his longest of the game. pic.twitter.com/mJGzVgLq7N

A throw C.J. Stroud would like to have over again, and a ball Chris Olave would like another chance for. pic.twitter.com/F72YHMXcpS

The first of three Aidan Hutchinson sacks. Beats Dawand Jones. pic.twitter.com/VKOE4NT3wX

Steele Chambers made three terrific plays on Michigan's possession at end 1Q/start 2Q. He was a bright spot on a defense that didn't have many.

Terrific throw by Stroud but Smith-Njigba can’t make the catch. pic.twitter.com/uiIlmklSwW

Hope you’ve enjoyed Garrett Wilson as a Buckeye. A highlight machine. pic.twitter.com/WpPsa2N0BS

Great throw by Cade McNamara. pic.twitter.com/PkgJuMleUW

Could’ve been intercepted. Could’ve been pass interference. pic.twitter.com/1BEqrnA5rV

OSU faced fourth-and-3 from the UM 13 with 26 seconds left. Day let time run down to 10 seconds and then kicked a field goal to make it 14-13. Was counting on OSU to take the lead on the first possession of the 3Q.

Huge play to start the second half. Henderson stuffed on third down. This is where it starts to unravel. pic.twitter.com/1JkuXHS8Ue

Corum’s 55-yard run. Cody Simon gets blocked. Shaw takes a bad angle. pic.twitter.com/gmXXWUsJaO

No idea how JSN makes this catch. Crazy. pic.twitter.com/LxeH4l5VwS

Near the goal line. Michigan has only two WRs. Yet OSU sticks with 4-2-5 alignment. Don’t understand that. pic.twitter.com/54QpnHGnTe

I forgot this play. Olave is special. pic.twitter.com/ArGYHTjkdh
— Bill Rabinowitz (@brdispatch) November 30, 2021
It obviously wasn't enough, but OSU's offense deserves credit for repeatedly converting third-and-long and fourth-down situations. If those hadn't been converted, the score might have gotten really ugly.

Petit-Frere did not have one of his better games, it’s safe to say, but this holding call that wiped out Stroud’s scramble for a TD was weak. pic.twitter.com/Tfyf1bhtrb
— Bill Rabinowitz (@brdispatch) November 30, 2021
OSU is still in a 4-2-5 when everyone knew UM would run. Why? pic.twitter.com/zNUTdJQbbj

This play sums up the game as well as any. pic.twitter.com/tDUuPX6HFF

That'll do it for the DVR review. Well, it was at least as bad in review as it seemed live at the stadium. Some thoughts; Boy, that crowd was really loud and a real factor. In the semi-hermetically sealed press box, it can be hard to gauge. It really was a 12th man for UM. 1/

But make no mistake, Michigan dominated this game on the field, especially in the trenches. OSU was short-handed at LB. Would love to get details about how much that limited them. Teradja Mitchell, who wasn't on unavailable list, didn't have one defensive snap. 2/

On offense, penalties and inability to establish run and protect Stroud, made everything seem like it was going uphill. It's impressive the Buckeyes scored 27 points. Stroud played very well, especially knowing he was ill. 3/

This game will and should cause a lot of soul-searching. It's very unusual for Ohio State to be physically manhandled. The Buckeyes were by both Oregon and Michigan in the biggest games of the year. What changes does Ryan Day make as a result? 4/
— Bill Rabinowitz (@brdispatch) November 30, 2021
Give credit to Michigan. It looked like the more motivated team. Losing eight in a row in the rivalry, playing at home in tough weather with everything at stake, brought out the best in the Wolverines. They were the better team Saturday. 5/
— Bill Rabinowitz (@brdispatch) November 30, 2021
I know OSU fans want to win this game every year and have gotten used to doing so. But if this re-sparks the rivalry - and some of UM's quotes will - nothing wrong with that. As always, thanks for following along (if you did, and I understand why if you didn't). 6/6
