Upcoming week is a warm one with the chance for showers & storms

Tonight, we’ll settle in for a dry evening under mostly clear skies. Up toward northern West Virginia, we’ll have a cold front move through the state during the overnight. This system is expected to weaken as it moves down to us, providing only an isolated shower chance across the northern edges of Nicholas and Pocahontas counties. The lowlands should mainly stay dry, albeit staying breezy, with temps dropping into the 50s.

Monday morning partly cloudy skies and lukewarm temps in the 50s make for a decent start in the lowlands with the higher terrain dealing with the chance for a stray shower. Monday afternoon features some peaks of sunshine, temps pushing into the 70s, and the chance for an isolated thunderstorm. Storm chances fade overnight, bringing in a mostly dry start to Tuesday morning.

Tuesday begins with partly cloudy skies for West Virginia though portions of Virginia could wake up to a stray shower or two. Chances of sunshine will be around through the late morning, helping our temps go from the 50s, eventually into the 60s & 70s by lunchtime. With daytime heating in place, the chance for some isolated storms in the afternoon will be around.

Wednesday will bring in a new system, ushing in mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers in the morning. Temps will start off near 60, making it easy for them to get into the 70s with enough breaks. By the afternoon, thunderstorms look likely and eventually scattered showers and storms overnight with the arrival of a cold front.

Thursday morning looks wet with our cold front moving through. We’ll once again start in the 50s, slowly making it into the 60s as rain chances push off to the east. By the afternoon, only a few lingering showers will be possible across the mountains with the lowlands drying out into Thursday night.

Our StormTracker 59 Predictor

Friday morning will be the chilliest morning so far this week with temps in the 40s. Thankfully through lunchtime, we’ll enjoy enough of a break where temps will get into the 60s. As another system approaches our area, clouds will thicken Friday afternoon, bringing back the chance for showers and storms Friday evening into Saturday morning.

Saturday starts off with scattered showers. Morning showers and even a rumble of thunder look like a good bet so something to keep in mind if you have weekend plans. Rain chances look to decrease a bit in the afternoon, but we’ll still hold onto an isolated chance here or there. Temps stay cool to begin the weekend with temps in the 60s.

#WeatherTogether

In your extended forecast, we look to start clearing up by Sunday as a northern high pressure system moves into the region. With more sunshine on the way, we’ll see temps get into the 60s by next Monday while staying mostly sunny. We are keeping an eye on the chance for showers by the middle of next week with warmer temps on the way.

We are in spring forest fire season in West Virginia – this means don’t burn between 7 AM and 5 PM through May 31st. Low humidity values during the daytime, along with breezier and warmer conditions will at times increase the fire threat, hence the burn ban during most of the daytime. Follow all regulations or be faced with potential consequences, such as fines! In Virginia, the spring fire season continues through April 30th – don’t burn before 4 PM.
