UNLV releases police body camera video, 911 calls months after campus shooting

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – UNLV has released campus police body camera video and 911 calls made to dispatch during the Dec. 6 shooting that took place on the school’s campus.

The release on Thursday included more than 20 hours of video and audio footage.

On Dec. 6, three people were killed and one remained hospitalized following the shooting at UNLV. The shooter was also shot and killed following the incident, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan police.

Portions of the officer-worn body camera video released on Thursday showed police directing students and staff to the nearest exits moments after gunfire erupted on the UNLV campus. Surveillance video from the campus was also released and showed students running off campus following the shooting.

LVMPD and University police responded to reports of an active shooter at the UNLV campus at around 11:45 a.m. on Dec. 6. Within minutes, both on and off-duty responders responded. Adam Garcia, Director of University Police Services Southern Command, said that two of their detectives responded to the scene and became involved in a “shoot out” with the suspect outside Beam Hall.

Beam Hall is the home of the Lee Business School and is near the Student Union building.

UNLV Student Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) continues to offer assistance to students, faculty, and staff who need crisis or support services.

Beam Hall remains closed to the public for the spring semester as building repairs continue. It is expected to reopen for the Fall semester.
