University program puts Missouri school in world’s top 10

MISSOURI (KSNF) — One university in the Show-Me State receives high marks on a global scale.

Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL) is ranked 8th in the world when it comes to their health sciences program. The ranking was conducted by the Nature Index — a database that tracks institutions and their scientific output.

WUSTL’s top 10 ranking is published on the most recent Nature Index list of leading 100 academic institutions in health sciences. The world’s leading establishments in higher education — like WUSTL — are ranked by their article Share in the subject from 2022 to 2023.

Nature Index ranks the leading institutions by the number of scientific articles and papers published in leading journals. In order to objectively measure the scientific output of institutions, only articles published in 145 journals — consider to be high-quality by Nature Index — are counted.

From November 2022 to October 2023, a total of 803 articles were published worldwide by authors from Washington University in St. Louis. 335 of those articles are related to health sciences.

The top ranked academic institution in the world for health sciences is Harvard University.
