This postponement is linked to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid's delayed rollout. The program, also known as the FAFSA, provides funds for millions of students to attend college annually. But the application opened nearly three months later than usual this year, leaving colleges scrambling to compile student financial aid packages in time for May decisions.

At UC, the federal government's delays mean admitted students won't receive full financial aid offers until after April 1. Because of that, the university announced Monday it is extending its admission decision deadline for Uptown freshmen to June 1 at 5 p.m.

UC Housing will accept applications until 5 p.m. June 4 to accommodate. Students must confirm admission to the university prior to applying for housing.

"This extension is being provided so that students relying on financial aid awards can be certain they have this information prior to making a final college selection," reads Monday's press release from UC.
