United Way of the Southern Tier partners with Wegmans for checkout fundraiser

N.Y. (WETM) – United Way of the Southern Tier and Wegmans are partnering to give customers the opportunity to raise money to support local programs in Chemung and Steuben counties.

From now until April 24, shoppers at the Wegmans in Corning, Elmira and Hornell will be able to donate to United Way when they get to the checkout.

Shoppers can choose to donate $2, $3, $5 or round up their total to the nearest dollar.

All of the donations that are collected during the fundraiser will be given to United Way’s Game Changer Fund, which supports 68 programs in Chemung and Steuben counties.

“Every dollar will support a local program for a child, a senior citizen or those in need in our community,” said United Way President and CEO Stephen Hughes. “Even the smallest gift can have a huge impact on people’s lives.”

Some programs that these funds will support include Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, home-delivered meals for senior citizens and crisis services, such as domestic violence shelters.
