United Airlines jet loses tire after takeoff, makes safe landing

A United Airlines Boeing plane lost a tire on takeoff from San Francisco International Airport, but the flight made a safe landing at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday.

The Boeing 777 jet, which has six tires on its primary landing gear, was embarking on a flight bound for Osaka International Airport in Japan.

The tire debris landed in the employee parking lot, where it damaged a car, but no one was injured, according to The Associated Press.

The plane landed safely in Los Angeles around 1:30 p.m. local time Thursday after the crew “reported a landing gear issue,” according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) statement to The Hill.

The FAA will investigate the incident.

The flight had 249 passengers and crew onboard, according to CNN. A new aircraft was arranged for the impacted passengers, while the jet was towed away upon landing in Los Angeles.

The Hill has reached out to United Airlines for comment.
