The United States may not be playing any part in the 2018 World Cup, but they are favorites for a huge victory in Moscow this week.

The 68th FIFA Congress, taking place in the Russian Capital in the days leading up to the big kick-off, will contain a vote for the hosting rights of the 2026 World Cup. The United 2026 bid is going head-to-head with a rival bid from Morrocco.

The United bid—comprising the United States, Canada and Mexico—is the favorite. However, a cursory glance back at the last World Cup hosting vote, in which Russia and Qatar were awarded tournaments, shows that the favourite doesn’t always get the gig.
