Union Health Foundation awards Wabash Valley students scholarships

May 17—Union Health Foundation awarded 34 scholarships totaling $54,300 to 33 students from the Wabash Valley for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. Recipients were honored during a ceremony at Union Hospital on Thursday.

Since its founding in 1985, the Foundation has awarded over $900,000 to over 780 local students seeking careers in nursing, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, medical research, pharmacy, athletic training, and other academic majors.

"Celebrating excellence and impact, it's an honor to serve on Union Health Foundation's scholarship committee, recognizing the brightest minds and stewarding funds to empower the future of healthcare. Together with our donors, we shape a legacy of support and opportunity," said Foundation Scholarship Chair Dr. Erik Southard. "I wish all of our scholars the best in their future endeavors."

This year's recipients included 25 nursing students and five seeking health sciences or healthcare-related degrees.

This year, two new scholarships were awarded in memory of Sally Zuel, RN, and long-time hospital legal counsel, Curt Wilkinson.
