Joe Biden’s campaign quickly seized on a video posted to Donald Trump’s social media account that referenced a “unified Reich” as a possibility if the former president were to win back the White House in November.

“Trump posts a new ad foreshadowing a second Trump term that says he will create a ‘UNIFIED REICH,’ echoing Nazi Germany,” the Biden campaign said after the text was spotted.

The video posited what another Trump term would look like, with face headlines mixed with smaller text. Below a headline with the words, “What’s next for America?” was a smaller headline that mentioned the “creation of a unified Reich.”

The Trump campaign tried to distance itself from the video. “This was not a campaign video, it was created by a random account online and reposted by a staffer who clearly did not see the word, while the president was in court,” Karoline Leavitt, campaign press secretary, said in a statement.

Trump has been in a New York courtroom for much of the day as he attends his criminal trial on charges that he falsified business records to cover up hush money payments to former porn star Stormy Daniels.

But throughout the trial, Trump has posted observations on Truth Social, his social media platform, including comments that have led to the judge in the case, Juan Merchan, issuing fines for violations of a partial gag order.

The post of the video was been deleted from the account this morning, per the AP. The Biden campaign blasted Trump for leaving the video on the site for more than 12 hours after an AP pointed out the “unified Reich” text.

Trump already has come under fire for some of his extreme rhetoric, including comments about immigration. Last year, he referred to political opponents as “vermin.” He dined with Nick Fuentes, a neo-Nazi, in 2022, along with Kanye West. Trump later said that West showed up with Fuentes, and that he knew “nothing about” him.

Andrew Bates, a White House spokesman, said of the video, “It is abhorrent, sickening and disgraceful for anyone to promote content associated with Germany’s Nazi government under Adolf Hitler.” He called it “anti-semitic dog whistling” that was “dangerous and offensive — and profoundly un-American.”

Biden told donors at a fundraiser later today, per a pool report, “This is the same guy that uses Hitler’s language, not America’s. It’s no surprise that when he, about four months ago, he talked about – I think maybe a little longer – that Hitler did some quote some good things.”
