Person killed after reported kidnapping, hostage situation in Utah

MILLCREEK, Utah (ABC4) — Officers with the Unified Police Department were involved in a Millcreek shooting, according to authorities.

In a press release, the Unified Police Department said officers responded to a call of a reported kidnapping and hostage situation involving a 15-year-old victim in the area of 3500 South and 2300 East on Monday, May 20.

Upon arrival, officers entered the home where they encountered a suspect with a firearm. UPD said during the incident, a shot was fired by police killing the suspect. The Unified Police Department did not provide details on what led to officers opening fire.

A firearm was reportedly recovered from the scene. Details on the suspect, including age and gender, have not been publicly released.

Unified Police Department said the West Valley Police Department is leading an investigation into the incident.

No further information was made available as of Tuesday morning, but UPD said it will release additional details as they become available.
