UNICEF: 'Solemn silence of death' in Gazan hospital's corridors

STORY: In the video, James Elder, comments on how "extraordinary medical staff” were once able to use these facilities to help save children in a space that is today utterly destroyed.

The video compares what the hospital was just a few months ago – a buzz of medical staff attending to injured patients and residents seeking shelter – to a damaged building with disused medical equipment, debris and empty hospital rooms.

Reuters was able to confirm the location as Nasser Hospital from the patterns seen on the wall and floor which matched verified footage of the hospital. Exterior building characteristics also matched file imagery of the hospital. Reuters was not able to independently confirm the dates on which the clips were filmed. Note some of the footage is archive material, tagged as 'UNICEF Archive'.

Elder put out a video of himself at Nasser hospital in December last year showing the hospital floor covered in children seeking shelter after a bomb hit 50 meters away in which he said the capacity of hospitals in Gaza had been dramatically reduced by the conflict.
