UNC Health Caldwell announces DAISY Award winner

Mar. 15—LENOIR — Each quarter, UNC Health Caldwell selects a winner of the DAISY Award from a pool of excellent nurses, according to a press release from UNC Health Caldwell.

The award is given to recognize a nurse's outstanding patient care and a dedication to going the extra mile for every patient. This quarter's DAISY Award was given to Jennifer Ashburn, a Clinical Nurse II at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. The DAISY Award recipient must be a licensed, registered nurse to be considered, according to the press release.

DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System and was created by a patient's family after he received care for his autoimmune disease. The family wanted to thank the nurses that made a difference in the care of their loved one. The DAISY Award recognizes excellent care, but also prioritizes the compassion that a nurse shows in delivering that care. Jennifer Ashburn was nominated by a patient and family that were under her care, according to the press release.

"Above and beyond; standing out the most was Jennifer. She lightened the mood and brightened our dad's day from day one. She always entered and left with kindness and a caring attitude. She answered every question we had and if she was unsure, she went through the steps necessary to get us our answers. She handled my dad with care, respect and dignity. My dad lit up when she walked into the room and we really appreciated her in every way," said Jennifer's nominator.
