“We don’t have to look far to find someone, perhaps a loved one, diagnosed with cancer. Whether in Lubbock, West Texas or Eastern New Mexico, cancer impacts our lives,” said UMC Health System President and CEO Mark Funderburk. “As patient volumes grow significantly, the UMC Cancer Center has woefully outgrown its current capacity.”

The new facility will serve as a destination cancer center providing a wide range of treatment and integrative medicine, patient and family support and expanded research and clinical trials, according to the release. It will also house TTUHSC and UMC faculty specialists to collaborate on patient-centered health care.

The new facility is being dedicated to the TLC2 Foundation after their contribution to the new build, and is set to be open by early 2026.
