Ukrainians must be ready for all possible scenarios in the spring and summer due to Russian attacks. Specifically, they need to get their generators and power banks ready. At the same time, power engineers will do everything they can to prevent this situation.

Details: Halushchenko advised Ukrainians to be ready for all possible outcomes in a forthcoming warm season since the war is ongoing.

"I was often asked this before the start of the heating season (What to prepare for? – ed.). I was then asked whether to buy generators or power banks. And yes, it’s a bit frightening when a minister says, ‘Let’s all buy generators’ but I would like to say again what I said then: yes, buy them and get ready, but we will do everything in our power so that you don’t need them. Now Russian large-scale attacks have resumed, and we need to get ready for any scenario," he explained.

Background:

  • Russia attacked two thermal power plants belonging to DTEK, the largest private energy company in Ukraine, severely damaging the equipment.

  • As a result of the Russian large-scale attack on the early morning of 11 April, the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant was completely destroyed.

  • The loss of the Trypillia Power Plant will negatively affect the power balance in Ukraine as it will have less power to cover the energy consumption needs during peak hours.

  • The Trypillia Power Plant was a very large facility that could not be fully protected by fortifications alone. Use of appropriate air defence systems was essential.
