Ukrainian soldiers voice concerns over northern defense quality — military expert
Ukrainian military raises concerns about the quality of defense structures in northern Kharkiv Oblast, military expert, a former officer of Ukraine’s SBU Security Service Ivan Stupak, said on Radio NV on May 12.
"There are many complaints from our soldiers in this area," Stupak said. "They want to confront those who built these fortifications. We can't discuss this openly, but they tell us the situation is dire. Not everywhere, but in some places, it's truly dismal."
In Kharkiv Oblast, Russian occupation forces tried to break through Ukraine's defenses near Vovchansk at 5 a.m. on May 10. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense confirmed the attack, stating that Ukrainian forces successfully repelled it.
Russian forces also heavily shelled border settlements.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian troops launched a new wave of counteroffensives on this front. He also announced that Ukraine would redeploy forces to the Kharkiv sector.
The White House, commenting on these events, acknowledged that Russian occupiers were preparing for a "larger" offensive on Kharkiv.

Earlier, DeepState reported that the Russians occupied several villages in the border areas of Kharkiv Oblast.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov expressed "some concern" about a potential new Russian offensive on the city, but noted that the Russians lack sufficient resources for such an operation.

Ukrainian Army Commander Oleksandr Pavliuk told The Times on May 3 that the Russians have a plan to capture Kharkiv or Sumy.
In early May, the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War reported that the Russian army had redeployed some troops to Kursk Oblast and was forming a new group, presumably in preparation for a large-scale offensive on Kharkiv.
