Ukrainian military refutes Russian claims of Robotyne seizure in Zaporizhzhya Oblast

Ukrainian forces maintain their positions in Zaporizhzhya Oblast despite intensified Russian assaults in the last three days, Ukraine's Southern Defense Forces spokesman, Dmytro Pletenchuk, said on May 16, labeling Russian Defense Ministry claim of the Robotyne village seizure as fake.

"Despite numerous assaults, the enemy has not succeeded, and we have not lost our positions... Regarding Robotyne, this information does not correspond to reality," he said on national television, noting that the Ukrainian Defense Forces found out of about the planned May 15 “seizure” announcement a few days earlier from a captured enemy soldier.

The Russians may enter the village, record short videos while raising their flag, and then "heroically" die.

According to Pletenchuk, the enemy has currently paused its assaults near Krynky and Nestyha Island in the south.

This follows earlier Russian Defense Ministry claim on May 15 of the complete seizure of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhya Oblast, which was refuted by the Ukrainian General Staff.

On May 6, U.S.-based think tank Institute for the Study of War reported that Russian forces had recently made confirmed advances northwest of Svatove (Luhansk Oblast), near Avdiivka (Donetsk Oblast), in Robotyne (Zaporizhzhya Oblast), and in east (left) bank Kherson Oblast.
