Liberation of Nestryga island on Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast by Ukrainian Forces will improve quality of counter-sabotage measures, stated Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokeperson for Southern Defense Forces, Hromadske Radio reported on April 29.

“It's not about strategy, it's more about position warfare, it's more about tactical importance," he explained.

"Locations that do not allow enemy to approach our positions are important."

Pletenchuk added that there are actually many such islands on Dnipro River that occupiers can use for their own purposes.

Nestryga Island was considered a 'no man's land' for some time. Now Armed Forces cleared this location of possible enemy presence.

Commander-In-Cheif of Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that Ukrainian units managed to advance in area of Veletenske and establish control over Nestryga Island in Kherson Oblast on April 28.

At the same time, Russian occupiers are still trying to kick Ukrainian Armed Forces out of Krynky in Kherson Oblast, he added.
