Details: Having no food, lacking communication and the possibility to evacuate, three Russian soldiers decided to surrender upon reaching the positions of Ukrainian border guards and airborne forces.

Border guards of the Donetsk Main Operational and Investigative Department evacuated the prisoners of war from their positions under Russian fire to establish their identities and motives for fighting on the territory of Ukraine.

In further communication, the Russians explained that they had gone to the war to make money by signing short-term contracts. They were promised up to RUB 200,000 [roughly US$2,160] per month.

All of the captured soldiers belong to Russia's 10th Tank Regiment. One of them is a rifleman assigned to storm Ukrainian positions, and the other are two privates of Russia's Troops of Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defence, who were supposed to cover the assault group with a smoke screen.
