Kerch Bridge is expected to be destroyed soon, stated Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsia, on his post on X on May 1.

His post illustrates six main types of bridges: arch, cantilever, cable-stayed, suspension, tied arch, and a unique gap beneath the Kerch Bridge sign.

The Kerch Bridge, also called the Crimean Bridge, comprises parallel bridges — one for a four-lane road and the other for a double-track railroad — connecting the occupied Crimean Peninsula with Russia.

On April 25, The New York Times reported that senior Pentagon officials had confirmed that Ukraine may utilize the long-range ATACMS missiles provided by the United States to target Russian military assets in Crimea.

SBU attacks on the Crimean Bridge

Ukraine’s SBU Security Service attacked the Crimean Bridge for the first time on Oct. 8, 2022.

The Kremlin accused Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), of organizing sabotage in an Oct. 12 statement. HUR dismissed the accusations as "nonsense."

Russia asserted it fully restored the destroyed bridge section by May 5, 2023. Former Deputy Ukraine's Defense Minister, Hanna Malyar, said on July 8, 2023, that Ukraine was responsible for the bridge explosion.

On July 7, 2023, Ukraine’s SBU Security Service launched another attack on the Crimean Bridge using Sea Baby surface drones. Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Marat Khusnullin, stated that one section of the road part of the bridge couldn't be repaired.

Following successful attacks by Ukraine, the Russian administration fortified the Crimean Bridge with "special anti-sabotage boom barriers," purportedly capable of safeguarding the structure from both surface and underwater drones.

In February 2024, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Vice Admiral, Oleksiy Neyizhpapa, said he was convinced that the Crimean Bridge would be destroyed by the end of the year.

Kyrylo Budanov hinted that Ukraine would keep targeting Russian sites in temporarily occupied Crimea and cautioned "against using the bridge".

"Ukraine plans to demolish the Crimean Bridge once and for all in the first half of 2024," said The Guardian.
