Dmytro Kuleba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, has stressed that Ukraine needs to be able to strike targets on Russian territory in order to bring the war to an end sooner.

Details: Kuleba’s statement comes against the backdrop of recent discussions about whether Ukraine has the right to use weapons supplied by its partners to strike targets in Russia.

Kuleba stressed that Ukrainian strikes on targets in Russia are justified, because "that’s the territory from which death and destruction come to Ukraine".

"If someone thinks that we have to be in a weak position and to sit and wait for death to come and get us, you won’t get what you want, neither our death nor our weakness. It’s better to be on Ukraine’s side because the more military targets we can strike on the territory of the Russian Federation, the sooner this war will end with Ukraine’s victory," Kuleba said.

Background:

  • Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said that Ukraine’s partners could either shoot Russian air targets from the territory of their countries, or supply Ukraine with sufficient air defence capabilities to do so from its own territory.

  • In an interview with Reuters, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine was in talks with international partners about the possibility of using their weapons to strike targets in Russia.

  • Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis believes that Ukraine's Western allies should allow the Ukrainian military to deploy their weapons to strike targets in Russia.
