Ukrainian Foreign Ministry responds to deviation from Human Rights Protection Convention

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has consistently reported deviations from the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights since the onset of Russian aggression in 2015, it announced on April 29.

This practice of notifying international bodies has persisted following Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022 and the subsequent implementation of martial law in Ukraine.

In a recent update this April, Ukraine revised and even reduced the list of current restrictions, marking the 20th notification to international organizations since 2015.

Earlier, a number of Ukrainian media outlets, citing the country's representation to the Council of Europe, reported that Kyiv had deviated from the human rights convention due to martial law.

Ukraine did not suspend the protection of rights, but reviewed and withdrew reservations on the restriction of certain rights, the Ministry of Justice clarified.
