Ukraine’s trust in NATO undermined by aid delay — Stoltenberg

Ukraine's trust in its Western allies has been shaken due to delays in weapon deliveries and unfulfilled agreements, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview with Reuters on April 30.
In the interview, he acknowledged that NATO has experienced several setbacks in supporting Ukraine and needs to review its mechanisms for providing military assistance.
“We need a more robust, institutionalized framework for our support to ensure predictability, to ensure more accountability and to ensure burden-sharing,” said Stoltenberg.

As an example of such lapses, he cited the six-months-long delay in providing aid to Ukraine by the U.S. Congress. At the same time, European allies have provided fewer artillery shells to the Ukrainian military than was initially planned.
“Of course, the fact that we have not delivered what we promised has put a dent... into the trust,” Stoltenberg added.
According to the official, appropriate funding for Ukraine would be "tiny bits or fractions" compared to what the United States and its allies spent in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“There we speak about trillions and... in Ukraine, we are speaking about billions,” Stoltenberg said.
“But we are actually addressing a real challenge for our security — a more aggressive Russia.”
