Ukraine takes down Russian Alligator helicopter with Javelin ATGM – commander shares story

The Ukrainian military successfully neutralized a Russian Ka-52 helicopter, known as the Alligator, with a Javelin missile, Yevhen, commander of the 36th Air Defense Brigade’s ATGM company, said on March 26, quoted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Center for Strategic Communications on Telegram.

The enemy helicopter was working against the positions of friendly units. The Javelin literally captured the target at the last moment.

“I launched it, and 30 seconds later, I saw an explosion in the sky,” says Yevhen, the ATGM company commander.

The next morning, they confirmed the destruction of the Alligator.

The Javelin provided by partner countries is a very effective weapon, the soldier added.

“This ATGM proved to be a good asset at the beginning of the large-scale invasion when we were defending Mykolaiv, then at the Avdiivka and Zaporizhzhia fronts, where our unit destroyed a lot of equipment,” said Yevhen.

Nobody had any combat experience to start with, so they gained it directly in battle, learning from their mistakes – how to approach, how to capture a target, how to choose a firing line, etc.
