The bodies of 140 fallen soldiers were returned to the territory controlled by Ukraine, the Coordination Center for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported on Telegram on April 26.

112 bodies of defenders who fought in the Donetsk sector, 20 fallen soldiers from the Luhansk sector, five bodies of soldiers from the Sumy sector, two fallen defenders from the Zaporizhzhya sector and one from the Kherson sector were repatriated.

The fallen were returned thanks to cooperation with the Joint Center of Ukraine’s SBU security service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Central Department of Civil-Military Cooperation), the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and other representatives of the security and defense sector.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces will transport the repatriated bodies and remains to designated state institutions, while law enforcement officials and forensic experts will identify the victims.

After the bodies are identified, they will be handed over to the families for a dignified funeral.
