Ukraine rescues mother, her four children, another teen from Russian-occupied territories

Ukraine has managed to return five more children from the temporarily occupied territories, the head of the Kherson Oblast Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, reported on March 13.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Feb. 26 that no one can say for sure how many Ukrainians, including children, adult civilians, and military personnel, are in Russian captivity.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, reported during the fourth meeting of the Peace Formula advisors in Davos on Jan. 14, 2024, that Ukraine had returned 517 illegally abducted children and 2,828 adults from Russia, including only 150 civilians.

At least 19,546 children have been abducted or forcibly displaced by Russia as of Feb. 24, 2024, the Ukrainian state platform Children of War reported.

A total of 35 children from Kherson Oblast have been returned to the territories controlled by Ukraine since the beginning of 2024.

All children are currently in a safe place, they are provided with medical, psychological, social, and humanitarian assistance.

A 17-year-old boy was also returned, who did not want to receive a Russian passport, so he was forced to hide from the occupation authorities, said the governor.

“A large family could not leave on their own for a long time, but when the right conditions were created for them, the family immediately agreed,” he said.

A mother with four children, aged 7 to 12, was returned to the government-controlled territory of Ukraine.
