Ukraine is set to receive an IRIS-T air defense system from Germany in May, German Ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on May 13.

Feldhusen noted that Ukraine already operates several IRIS-T systems, with another one arriving to bolster the country's defenses in May. The ambassador added that more IRIS-T systems would continue to be delivered to Ukraine in 2024-2026.

According to Feldhusen, Ukraine will soon host 25% (three) of Germany's Patriot air defense systems, in addition to Gepard anti-aircraft guns and Skynex systems supplied by Berlin.

“We understand the need for more air defense systems; therefore, Germany has initiated a major diplomatic effort,” said the ambassador.

“We are reaching out to other countries to provide additional air defense systems.”

Earlier, the U.S. State Department approved an urgent sale of three HIMARS rocket artillery systems to Ukraine, financed by the German government.

In April, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine negotiating with Germany regarding the provision of additional IRIS-T systems.
