Kyiv and Warsaw have begun official negotiations on a bilateral security agreement, aiming for it to be "as ambitious as possible," Ukrainian Parliament Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk said at a joint briefing with Polish Senate Marshal Malgorzata Kidawa-Blonska, Interfax-Ukraine reported on May 24.

They also discussed the creation of an international compensation mechanism for Ukraine and interparliamentary cooperation.

Kidawa-Blonska emphasized the importance of maintaining international support for Kyiv and pledged to continue work between the parliaments at all levels.

The announcement followed a May 16 telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, during which they agreed to begin preparations for the security agreement immediately.
