Ukraine plans Ministry split: Infrastructure and Territories Development to stand alone

Ukrainian government plans to revert the Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Ministry back into two separate entities: the Infrastructure Ministry and the Communities and Territories Development Ministry, a merger initiated in 2022 under the helm of Oleksandr Kubrakov.

While there are four candidates vying for leadership of the Communities and Territories Development Ministry, there are currently no contenders for the role of heading the Infrastructure Ministry, a high-ranking source within the ruling Servant of the People party told NV.

Potential candidates to lead the Development Ministry include its former Deputy Minister, Vyacheslav Nehoda;  Oleksiy Chernyshov, Chairman of Ukrainian oil and gas company Naftogaz; Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Head of the President's Office and Servant of the People MP Vitaliy Bezhin.

"Chernyshov is eager to return to the government," said the source.

"He attended all events dedicated to the 10th anniversary of decentralization, whereas Kubrakov didn't attend all of them. So, he [Chernyshov] really behaved himself as a profiled premier."

The source expressed doubts about Bezgin's prospects due to his controversial reputation in the President's Office, and Nehoda's due to his age, being 66 years old.

"As for Oleksiy Kuleba as a candidate — it's a clear and logical choice," added the NV source.

"He holds a similar position in the President's Office, possesses relevant experience, and previously served as a governor."

The future of the Infrastructure Ministry is currently unknown, the source said. There is a possibility that it may merge with the Economy Ministry and fall under the oversight of Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
