The Ukrainian military needs an influx of recruits, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on May 14. According to him, this will strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities both now and in the future.

Blinken made the statement while addressing students at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

“Defenders who have been holding the front for over two years require assistance, and they need to rest," the secretary said.

Blinken stated that mobilization allows Ukraine to bolster its defense, create more capable military units, and fortify its borders.

“The United States is helping Ukraine do this in a way that ensures victory not just today but also prevents future attacks,” he added.

“As President Joe Biden has said, we are committed to doing this.”
