Ukraine’s General Staff reports record-breaking Russian losses in latest update

Russia has lost around 1,740 soldiers and 31 tanks in Ukraine within the last 24 hours, bringing the total losses since the invasion's start to approximately 484,030 individuals, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on Facebook  on May 13.

Occupiers also lost dozens of tanks and other militart equipment. Total Russian losses, according to the General Staff, are:

  • tanks - 7485 (+31)

  • armored combat vehicles - 14417 (+42)

  • artillery systems - 12487 (+15)

  • MLRS - 1070 (+4)

  • air defense systems - 797 (+0)

  • aircraft - 350 (+0)

  • helicopters - 325 (+0)

  • UAVs of operational and tactical level - 9936 (+26)

  • cruise missiles - 2197 (+3)

  • ships/boats - 26 (+0)

  • submarines - 1 (+0)

  • motor vehicles and tankers - 16878 (+59)

  • special equipment - 2048 (+6)

The data is being updated.

On May 12, the General Staff reported that only near Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast, Russians lost more than 100 soldiers killed in a day.

Russian losses in war against Ukraine

Spokesman for the General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalev, on Feb. 27 explained that total losses of occupiers, published by General Staff, consist of two main indicators of losses suffered by enemy in course of hostilities. Namely, irrecoverable losses and combat sanitary losses of enemy.

In February, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russian losses amounted to 180,000 killed and up to half a million wounded.

Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesman for Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Troops Group, said that 85 percent of Russian losses were concluded in the eastern sector on April 25. This applies to both personnel and equipment.

The UK Minister of State for the Armed Forces Leo Docherty said on April 27 that approximately 450,000 Russian troops have been killed or wounded since the onset of the Russian war in Ukraine, the UK estimates suggest.
