Ukraine fulfilled its obligations for EU membership talks — Zelenskyy

Kyiv has fully met its obligations to begin EU accession negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on May 1.
“As with every previous stage of integration with the European Union, a lot depends on our own work,” Zelenskyy in his evening video address.
“Ukraine has fully implemented its part of the obligations to actually begin membership negotiations in June.”
He added that Ukraine is working to avoid any delays or potential miscommunications with EU officials.
“This year we need to maintain the course and achieve new milestones in each of the strategic directions,” the president continued.
“The start of negotiations with the EU, our continued integration, is one of those directions.”

Zelenskyy has repeatedly stated that meeting the EU's conditions to begin the negotiations is a priority for Ukraine.
European Council President Charles Michel previously suggested that Ukraine could join the European Union by 2030.
On Nov. 8, 2023, the European Commission recommended the start of negotiations on Ukraine and Moldova's EU membership.
On Dec. 14, the European Council endorsed opening accession talks with Ukraine.
On March 12, the European Commission officially presented the negotiation frameworks for Ukraine and Moldova's accession to the bloc.
