Kyiv appreciates the efforts of the Brazilian president to find a solution to stop the Russian aggression, but "there is no legal, political, or moral reason why [Ukrainians] should give up even an inch of Ukrainian land," he said.

"Ukraine's position remains unchanged: any mediation efforts to restore peace in Ukraine must be based on respect for sovereignty and full restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter," Nikolenko stressed.

Da Silva made some eyebrow-raising statements about Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s seizure of Ukrainian lands, "Maybe we can discuss Crimea. But he will have to rethink the fact that he invaded again," he said.

The Brazilian president also said that his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodomyr Zelenskyy, “cannot want everything.”

In January, Brazil refused to give Ukraine ammunition and rejected Germany's request to send the Ukrainian Armed Forces tank shells.

President Zelenskyy had a conversation with da Silva in early March.
