On the Ukrainian side, the round of talks was chaired by Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The parties discussed the terms of the draft agreement and agreed on further steps to finalise and sign the document as soon as possible.

Kyiv and Stockholm announced their intention to start negotiations on a security agreement last year, and in March they expressed their readiness to start them "as soon as possible".

Previously:

  • To date, Ukraine has signed bilateral security agreements with nine countries, the latest being Latvia. An agreement with Norway is also expected to be signed.

  • In early May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that security agreements with seven countries, including the United States, were in preparation.
