The UK will send Typhoon fighter jets to Poland to help protect its airspace as part of the UK's support for Ukraine, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced at a press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on April 23, Poland's RMF24 said.

16,000 British soldiers will also be deployed to Poland as part of NATO's Steadfast Defender 24 military exercise, which will last until the end of May, he added.

The use of frozen Russian assets, migratory pressure on the Polish-Belarusian border, and energy cooperation were also on the meeting agenda, Sunak said.

Perspectives in the defense industry were also discussed.

"We are building frigates and a new defense system to protect Polish airspace,” he said.

“We will strengthen our cooperation in all formats so that we can work together on the most important air defense aspects.”

Sunak also announced the allocation of the UK’s largest ever aid package to Ukraine amounting to more than half a billion pounds ($600 million USD).

The UK’s largest ever aid package to Ukraine

The British government's official website earlier outlined the specifics of the aid, which includes:

  • 60 boats, including offshore raiding craft, rigid raiding craft, dive boats, and maritime guns

  • Over 1,600 missiles, including strike, air defense, and additional Storm Shadow long-range precision-guided missiles

  • More than 400 vehicles, including 160 'Husky' protected mobility vehicles, 162 armored vehicles, and 78 all-terrain vehicles

  • Nearly 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition

This allocation is part of an extensive commitment by the UK, providing Ukraine with a total of 3 billion pounds ($3.6 billion) in military assistance for the fiscal year.
