UFC Fight Night 33 Fighter Bonuses: Mark Hunt and Bigfoot Silva Steal the Show!

After Knocking Out Frank Mir, Mark Hunt Wants High-Profile Rematches

UFC officials on Friday night issued the usual $50,000 post-fight awards following UFC Fight Night 33 in Brisbane, Australia. But it was not a usual night when it came to awarding the Fight of the Night.

There was no question that main eventers Mark Hunt and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva would be granted the honors. The two powerful heavyweights each had his moments in the fight, in fact, each had numerous moments, where it looked as if one or the other would take control.

In the end, each rocked the other several times, both men battered and bloodied by the end of the five rounds. Neither emerged an obvious winner and the judges acknowledged that.

Although one judge scored the fight in Hunt’s favor, two saw it as a draw. The official decision was a majority draw, neither fighter ending with a blemish on his record.

“I agree that I have NEVER been so happy with a draw in my life! I am happy it was a draw. Winner of that fight is US the fans!!!” tweeted UFC president Dana White, adding that both men would also get their win bonuses.

While there were several knockouts to choose from, the Knockout of the Night winner again was clear-cut. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, who had rumors of retirement swirling around him prior to the fight, quieted the doubters with a 1:03 knockout of James Te Huna.

There were no submissions, and thus no Submission of the Night was awarded.

The UFC handed out a total of $150,000 in post-fight award bonuses.
