UFC adds Snoop Dogg as commentator for new Tuesday night series
Snoop Dogg is coming soon to a screen near you, and no, it’s not for his rapping or his acting.
It’s for his commentating.
The award-winning rapper will join UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber to create a “SnoopCast” for the upcoming weekly fight series “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series.” The series debuts on July 11 and is available on UFC Fight Pass, an internet-based subscription service. Faber and Snoop Dogg will serve as an alternate tandem to a more traditional broadcasting team that will also commentate the fight.
“I’m a big fan of UFC and [am] looking forward to joining the team to bring my unique take on all the action,” Snoop Dogg told ESPN. “Y’all in for a brand-new experience with Dogg on the mic.”
“Snoop and I have wanted to do something together for a long time,” UFC president Dana White added. “He’s a huge fight fan and wanted to call fights. This is a fun opportunity for fans to opt into SnoopCast and hear his take along with Urijah Faber on how the fights are going.”
UFC senior vice president of international and content Joe Carr added that Snoop Dogg could help broaden UFC’s audience base.
The series will run for eight weeks, with each episode featuring a five-fight card. Though veteran fighters Kurt Holobaugh and Matt Bessette will headline the debut lineup, most of the series is focused on helping upcoming and unsigned talent gain exposure.
