UFC 300 is upon us, as one of the biggest fight events in recent years plays out in Las Vegas – and the card is stacked from the very first fight to the last.

In the main event, former middleweight champion Alex Pereira defends the light-heavyweight title against his predecessor Jamahal Hill, who vacated the belt due to injury last year. Beforehand, in the co-main event, Zhang Weili puts her strawweight gold on the line against Yan Xiaonan, in the first all-Chinese title fight in UFC history.

Those bouts follow the fans’ pick for fight of the night, as Justin Gaethje faces Max Holloway. Gaethje defends the ‘Baddest Motherf***er’ title against the ex-featherweight champion, as the pair meet at lightweight.

Prior to those fights, Charles Oliveira takes on Arman Tsarukyan in a crucial clash at 155lbs, and ex-champions Jiri Prochazka, Aljamain Sterling, Holly Holm and Jessica Andrade all feature – as do Deiveson Figueiredo and Cody Garbrandt, in the card’s opening bout.

Follow live updates and results from the UFC 300 prelims and main card, below.

UFC 300 LIVE: Holly Holm vs Kayla Harrison

01:23 , Alex Pattle

Next up, a big prelim bout. Former bantamweight champion Holly Holm faces UFC debutant Kayla Harrison – a two-time Olympic gold medalist and former PFL champion.

Harrison is used to fighting at lightweight, so she did well to make the bantamweight limit here!

UFC 300 LIVE: Sodiq Yusuff vs Diego Lopes

01:08 , Alex Pattle

The early prelims are in the books! Onto the regular prelims, where we begin with Sodiq Yusuff vs Diego Lopes at featherweight. Here we go, three rounds scheduled.

Round one

Both men stand orthodox. Yusuff misses with a couple of low kicks early on. Decent jab by him, though, as Lopes lands his own leg kicks.

OH! An uppercut drops Yusuff! A wild scramble ensues, and Lopes drops him again!

Lopes mounts Yusuff, who is flat on his stomach, and pours on punches... and the referee steps in! A rapid finish for Lopes!

Diego Lopes def. Sodiq Yusuff via first-round TKO (strikes, 1:29).

Lopes calls out Movsar Evloev, a man that few fighters address! He also namechecks champion Ilia Topuria.

UFC 300 LIVE: Jalin Turner vs Renato Moicano

Sunday 14 April 2024 00:53 , Alex Pattle

Round two

That was Moicano’s round until that late knockdown. Decent shots from the Brazilian early in this round, as he looks to arrest Turner’s momentum.

Lots of nice straight punches from Moicano here. He then shoots for a double-leg takedown against the cage, and he has Turner down. Moicano is straight into mount!

Moicano picks his moments to get off some punches and elbows. Even so, the crowd is booing; they want more stand-up.

They’re cheering now!! Moicano lands more and more strikes, and Turner shells up on the mat! Referee Herb Dean asks the American to fight back, but he can’t!

DEAN WAVES IT OFF! Moicano with the TKO!

Renato Moicano def. Jalin Turner via second-round TKO (ground strikes, 4:11).

Sunday 14 April 2024 00:47 , Alex Pattle

Round one

Turner hurts Moicano almost immediately with a pair of body hooks! Moicano clinches Turner to buy some time to recover...

Moicano with a nice trip, and he’s into half-guard, The jiu-jitsu black belt should be able to get his wind back here. Moicano almost sneaks smartly into mount during a brief scramble, but he’s still in half-guard for now.

Good strikes from Moicano, but Turner finally manages to stand! Ninety seconds left in the round.

OH! Brilliant counter left straight by Turner, and Moicano drops onto his backside!! He looks half-out of it, but Turner just walks off and lets him back to his feet! Odd choice.

UFC 300 LIVE: Jalin Turner vs Renato Moicano

Sunday 14 April 2024 00:42 , Alex Pattle

Moving swiftly along! It’s another lightweight clash, as Jalin Turner faces Renato Moicano.

“Money” Moicano is many fans’ newest favourite fighter, even at 34 – and with just one win in the last 18 months. The Brazilian bolstered his following with a wild post-fight interview after beating Drew Dober in a war two months ago, as he finally built on a win from late 2022.

This match-up with Turner, who is also well rounded but less consistent than Moicano, could be a sneaky pick for fight of the night.

Turner brutally finished Bobby Green in December and will naturally want another emphatic victory here.

UFC 300 LIVE: Jessica Andrade vs Marina Rodriguez

Sunday 14 April 2024 00:34 , Alex Pattle

Round three

Outside low kick from Andrade. OH! Big spinning back fist by Rodriguez, out of nowhere!

Andrade is sporting some blood around her nose. Another low kick by the former champion. Rodriguez fires back with a one-two, but she can only find the gloves of Andrade.

Rodriguez is pressing forward for the first time in a while. Andrade grazes her with a counter right overhand, before grabbing Rodriguez and dragging her to the mat.

A scramble ensues, and Rodriguez stands against the fence, where she eats a couple of solid punches. Rodriguez with a nice counter right hook, though.

Andrade ducks her head while approaching Rodriguez, who goes for a sort of ninja choke, but Andrade stays calm and eventually slips free.

Nice footwork from Rodriguez – on more than one occasion – to step off the centre line, slip Andrade’s cross and land a straight punch.

We’ll go to the scorecards...

Jessica Andrade def. Marina Rodriguez via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 29-28).

UFC 300 LIVE: Jessica Andrade vs Marina Rodriguez

Sunday 14 April 2024 00:27 , Alex Pattle

Round two

Great right cross from Rodriguez! She just misses with another.

A series of scrappy striking exchanges follow, as both fighters miss with a lot of output.

A right hand does get through for Rodriguez again, then another. She’s not landing with much power, however.

Meanwhile, Andrade is loading up on her punches, but the ex-champ has failed to land anything significant in this round.

Eventually Andrade gets through with a pair of left hooks, but they’re winging shots while she runs forward. But hey, if they land, they land...

Andrade is landing with increasing frequency, as Rodriguez looks a bit startled with her back to the fence! The buzzer comes at a good time for Rodriguez.

UFC 300 LIVE: Jessica Andrade vs Marina Rodriguez

Sunday 14 April 2024 00:14 , Alex Pattle

Next up, former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade faces Marina Rodriguez in an all-Brazilian affair.

Round one

Both women stand orthodox. Andrade, 32, is four years younger than Rodriguez. Andrade with a few low kicks early on; Rodriguez responds in kind.

Decent right hand by Rodriguez, who is the taller fighter by some margin. Andrade continues to press forward, but she walks onto a good counter combination from her compatriot.

Oh! More low kicks from Andrade, and Rodriguez stumbles to the mat as Andrade switches targets with some punches upstairs! It seems Rodriguez’s leg is compromised and played a role in that knockdown.

Andrade with some hard ground and pound, but Rodriguez is able to compose herself and neutralise Andrade’s offence, leading the latter to disengage and stand.

Soon, though, Andrade dives into Rodriguez’s guard. She moves into side control, then north-south. Rodriguez works on a D’Arce choke from underneath, but she can’t finish it.

UFC 300 LIVE: Bobby Green vs Jim Miller

Sunday 14 April 2024 00:05 , Alex Pattle

Round three

Between rounds, Miller complains to his corner about blood in his eye, and a potentially broken finger.

Green continues to be the faster, more accurate striker in there. A right and left hand hurt Miller, then a one-two. Green has landed over 100 more strikes than his fellow American.

Miller comes back with a left hand, but he’s eating punches now. He’s loading up, trying to take Green’s head off, and he might need to in order to win this one...

A frenzied exchange follows, and Green drops Miller with a combination of punches! Miller scrambles and stands against the cage, where Green takes him down!

Miller’s face is a MESS. The final buzzer sounds. Credit to both men for fighting their hearts out.

Bobby Green def. Jim Miller via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-25, 29-26).

A few 10-8 rounds in there, across the scorecards...

UFC 300 LIVE: Bobby Green vs Jim Miller

Saturday 13 April 2024 23:58 , Alex Pattle

Round two

More low kicks by Miller. A back-and-forth exchange ensues. “Miller” is the chant from the Vegas crowd.

Green lands a few straight punches in succession, with Miller loading up on his counters but missing. Miller appears to have been cut; he’s bleeding quite badly from the right side of his face.

Hard right hook lands for Green, as Miller raises his leg to throw a front kick. More accurate punches from Green, including a number of switch right crosses. He steps into those shots very subtly.

Hard body kick by Miller, whose blood is smeared all over his face, neck and chest.

A great round for Green.

UFC 300 LIVE: Bobby Green vs Jim Miller

Saturday 13 April 2024 23:50 , Alex Pattle

Round one

Both men stand southpaw. Good counter right hand by Green, who is trash-talking Miller already.

OH! Clean cross by Miller, and Green stumbles to the canvas and retreats to the cage!

After a bit of chaos, they end up back in the middle of the ring, where Miller lands a good right hook! Green with a slick left cross. More trash talk from him.

Miller with a left to the body. Green lands a grazing counter cross upstairs. Another good counter by Green, who times the shot as Miller kicks low.

Spinning back kick misses for Green, but he lands a side kick to the body. Green is on top right now.

UNTIL! Miller hurts Green again! A left hand has “King” staggering backwards... but Green is able to compose himself and land some good knees late in the round!

That is a hard round to score, given those two big moments for Miller...

UFC 300 LIVE: Bobby Green vs Jim Miller

Saturday 13 April 2024 23:37 , Alex Pattle

Next up, veterans clash at lightweight as Bobby Green faces Jim Miller.

Miller fought at UFC 100 in 2009 and UFC 200 in 2016, and he completes a remarkable hattrick tonight...

The 40-year-old – who has more UFC fights to his name than any other athlete – won at both of those events and is resurgent right now; can he replicate those successes against Green, who is looking to bounce back from a brutal knockout by Jalin Turner?

Let’s find out.

Lots of fans want Bruce Buffer to introduce Miller as “Jim F***ing Miller” tonight. So, let’s also find out if the ring announcer delivers on that front...

NO! He does not! A shame...

Here we go with round one.

UFC 300 LIVE: Cody Garbrandt vs Deiveson Figueiredo

Saturday 13 April 2024 23:28 , Alex Pattle

Round two

That first round should belong to Garbrandt. Figueiredo dives in with a right hand, but Garbrandt sidesteps it and lands another good left hook!

He overcommits on his next effort, though, and Figgy gets ahold of him! The Brazilian drags Garbrandt to the mat and gets to work on an arm triangle choke. Garbrandt defends, but Figueiredo takes the back! He has Garbrandt flattened out...

Hard punches from the Brazilian, who goes back to the arm triangle as No Love twists and gets face-up... Garbrandt is clinging on to Figgy’s arm, trying to create space in the choke...

Figueiredo eventually lets go, but he’s still in mount. Garbrandt scrambles, but Figgy takes the back again! He goes for a rear naked choke...

AND GARBRANDT TAPS! IT’S OVER!

Deiveson Figueiredo def. Cody Garbrandt via second-round submission (rear naked choke, 4:02).

UFC 300 LIVE: Cody Garbrandt vs Deiveson Figueiredo

Saturday 13 April 2024 23:22 , Alex Pattle

Round one

Both men stand orthodox. Garbrandt kicks low. Lots of feints from the American. Another inside low kick from him, and another. Figueiredo dives in with a right cross, but he only finds the chest.

Hard low kick by Figgy, and Garbrandt comes back with two counter left hooks! Clean lands for “No Love”!

Garbrandt misses with a one-two, and Figueiredo grabs a body lock. Garbrandt gets free, but he’s soon floored as Figgy lands a kick to the face as Garbrandt tries a wheel kick! Wild!

Garbrandt bounces back up. More leg kicks from him. Figueiredo with a front kick that just misses. Garbrandt blitzes in, and Figueiredo stumbles onto his backside. Garbrandt chooses not to engage for long. He steps away, allowing Figgy back to his feet.

This time Figueiredo’s front kick lands to the chest. He grabs a kick from Garbrandt and a brief grappling exchange ensues. Both men end the round on their feet, though.

UFC 300 LIVE: Exclusive interview with UFC 1’s champion

Saturday 13 April 2024 21:47 , Alex Pattle

Some time ago, I spoke to Royce Gracie: the Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend who won UFC 1, becoming the promotion’s first ever champion.

Gracie spoke about that surreal night – the night MMA was born – and much more.

As UFC 300 arrives, let’s look back on UFC 1...

UFC 300 LIVE: Charles Oliveira – exclusive interview

Saturday 13 April 2024 21:13 , Alex Pattle

It has almost become a slogan for Charles Oliveira at this point: “I am illuminated by God.” The Brazilian uttered the words more than once during our conversation, and he has uttered them countless times over the past two years.

In fact, it was his only explanation when asked by The Independent how a fighter with such a loose grasp of English could strike such a resonant chord with so many fans worldwide. “I don’t know,” the 34-year-old shrugged, his mouth curling into a smile. Then, with his lips forming a flatter terrain across his face: “I am a guy who is illuminated by God.”

A secular answer would be that Oliveira has a claim to the status of the most exhilarating fighter in UFC history, with more finishes and submissions than any other athlete who has graced the Octagon. Oliveira’s style captivates and combines with some indescribable essence around him to inspire devotion among fans – a devotion bordering on worship.

Oliveira’s own slogan, his mantra perhaps, almost paints the former lightweight champion as the second coming of Christ. The Brazilian’s faith is such that he would hastily dismiss that blasphemous notion, but his current goal is to rise again in the 155lbs division. He craves his old crown. He might even covet it, if that were not a sinful proposition.

Firstly, though, he must get past Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300.

UFC 300 card in full as Alex Pereira and Justin Gaethje star this weekend

UFC 300 LIVE

Friday 12 April 2024 12:55 , Alex Pattle
