UConn won only two games last year, so the Huskies aren’t usually in position to simply take a knee to finish out a ballgame.

With his team holding a 27-20 lead late in Thursday night’s game against Holy Cross, quarterback Bryant Shirreffs wanted to make sure he and center Ryan Crozier had the entire exchange perfected before they put it into action out on the field.

Look at the precision on these practice snaps:

That’s just great chemistry between a quarterback and his center. Plus, look at that footwork!

Oh, and the best part is when UConn finally put all that practice to use out on the field, the Huskies offensive line gave up a surge from the Holy Cross defensive line, causing Shirreffs to fall on his backside. Sad!

There was no fumble, though, and the Huskies were able to run out the clock and escape with a 27-20 win. Holy Cross led the game 20-7 at halftime, but the game turned when Shirreffs, a senior who was beat out for the starting role by junior college transfer David Pindell, was brought in off the bench.

After Shirreffs entered the game, the Huskies scored on three of the next four drives and were able to avoid an embarrassing upset in the first game of Randy Edsall’s second stint as UConn head coach.
