UChicago issues alert after 3 carjackings near campus

CHICAGO — The University of Chicago issued an alert Monday after three carjackings over the weekend near campus.

The first incident took place Saturday at around 1:20 a.m. in the 5500 block of South Blackstone.

Police said two victims were carjacked by two individuals who exited a white sedan. They were robbed at gunpoint before their Jeep Compass was stolen.

However, a victim contacted WGN News after this story was published and said it was not two suspects — it was five.

The woman said she was in town with her partner to visit her father and “automatic guns for war” were pressed against their heads during the robbery and carjacking.

At around 3 a.m. nearby in the 5400 block of South Blackstone, a person was robbed of their keys and cellphone at gunpoint before their Nissan was stolen.

The final incident took place Sunday morning at around 1:50 a.m. in the 1500 block of East 55th Street. Two suspects exited a Hyundai and robbed a person of their Toyota Camry and property at gunpoint.
