UC Merced encampment: What are their demands?

MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The demonstrators who have set up an encampment on the UC Merced campus issued a list of demands on social media on Tuesday.

The pro-Palestinian supporters started their encampment on Sunday – and by Tuesday the camp was clearly situated on the grass area of the amphitheater by the “Little Lake” on campus.

The group appears to be protesting for Palestine and to “end all U.S. funding of Israeli apartheid.”

The list of demands include:

  • A call for a ceasefire in Gaza

  • Financially divest all UC investments system-wide and campus-specific investments that directly support the genocide in Gaza.

  • An academic boycott of university ties with the “settler state” including all study abroad with Israel.

  • Amnesty for all student protestors “who have faced the gross and brutal repression and violence” by the UC system

  • Re-invest in students, including redirecting financial support to student’s needs and investing in aid to Palestine

The demands end with the statement “We are paying attention.”

The demonstration at UC Merced is at the same time as the Board of Regents meeting at the same location from May 14 until May 16.
