U-M Health Sparrow to raise Donate a Life Flag

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)–University of Michigan-Health Sparrow Lansing has announced raising its Donate A Life flag today.

In honor of Donate A Life Month, university officials say there aren’t enough organs to meet demands, so they are building awareness by hosting a flag-raising ceremony.

Kathy Marble, a Chief Nursing Officer for U-M Health Sparrow says a gift of a donated organ, represents a second chance for everyone.

She says everyone within the hospital is encouraging the Mid-Michigan community to consider becoming an organ donor and provide hope for over 2,500 people in the state who desperately wait for a transplant.

“Just last year, in 2023, just here on our Lansing campus, there was 23 patients that donated organs, and that resulted in 69 lives that were saved. And then if we talk about tissue donations, we have 60 patients that helped to heal thousands of lives.”
