U.S. Department of Justice requests to garnish Sherri Papini’s property over unpaid fine

(FOX40.COM) — The U.S. Department of Justice requested a writ of garnishment against property belonging to Sherri Papini.

According to documents filed Sunday, the DOJ is requesting the seizure of $340,221.23 in property belonging to Papini held by Redding law firm Kinney & Kinney Attorneys At Law.

In September 2022, Papini was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution of $309,902.23 after being convicted of faking her own kidnapping in 2016.

The DOJ said as of March 22, Papini still owed $309,292.23.

According to the documents, the DOJ is also asking Papini be made to pay an additional litigation surcharge equal to 10% of the unpaid fine, bringing her total owed to $340,221.23.
