ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The U.S. Census Bureau has just released its latest data on jobs around the nation. In New Mexico, the data shows an ongoing increase in hiring at private businesses.

The data comes from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Quarterly Workforce Indicators. On Friday, they released the latest data, through the second quarter of 2023.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows a long-term trend in hires in New Mexico.

An increase in hires doesn’t necessarily mean an increase in job creation in the state. But more than a decade of data does suggest an overall increase in jobs throughout the state.

While New Mexico is in an overall upwards trend, the latest data shows that Colorado, Arizona, and Texas each beat New Mexico in terms of total numbers of hires into private business. This might not be surprising, given that New Mexico has a smaller overall population than neighboring states – but it does suggest that neighboring states offer more options for job seekers.
