U.S. Army to Invest in Solar Power
Energy-efficiency saves lives. At least that's what top-ranking Army commanders are saying to explain a shift from fossil fuels to to solar energy and other renewable technologies at U.S. military outposts.
According to Bloomberg, fuel tankers carrying oil and gas are particularly vulnerable to attack in a war zone. Now, army officials are hoping that investments in solar energy and photovoltaic panels will help mitigate the risk of attack and lessen the number of casualties.
"A fuel tanker can be shot at and blown up," said Richard Kidd, the U.S. Army's deputy assistant secretary in charge of energy security. "The sun's rays will still be there."
